Check out Sorrento villas and you'll see the town has a section where the roads are all named after areas where battles were fought by Canadians during World War I and II: Dunkirk, Ortona, Passchendaele and Dieppe Roads. Those roads are all off the highway and lead towards the lake.
In terms of amenities, you can get groceries (and liquor) at Applewood Grocery or drive east to Blind Bay, which also has the Blind Bay Country Market. Also in Sorrento, you'll find a library, post office and a savings & credit union. Other stores in town include a hardware store, dollar store and a Nature's Bounty health food store. The area also has the Shuswap Marina and Boat Rentals in Blind Bay.
