Every day, abused women along with their children are seeking refuge from an abusive relationship with their spouse. The need to keep facilities like the S.A.F.E Society financially viable has never been more important. Knowing there is a safe and secure place to go can free a woman from a potentially life threatening situation and help her and her family start a new life without the threat of violence hanging over them.Â
The Royal LePage Shelter Foundation is supported by communities, real estate agents and real estate brokerages across Canada. Here in Salmon Arm, we have two main fundraising avenues here at Royal LePage Access Real Estate. Â
The first and more public event is the National Garage Sale for Shelter. This year marks the 8th year for this event and the 4th for us here in Salmon Arm. We are now accepting donations of gently used items which we will sell by donation at our sale to be held on Saturday, May 7th, 2016. This event is very well supported by the citizens and business community of Salmon Arm helping us raise over $10,000 for the SAFE Society in our first three years of holding the sale.Â
The other, less publicized fundraiser is the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation’s Commission Donation program. All of our agents and even some of our staff participate in this by donating a portion of their real estate commissions or wages to the Shelter Foundation.Â
Today we had the honour of presenting a cheque for $4,520 to Jane Shirley of the SAFE Society. This repre
sents the majority of the commission donations with another $1,105 going to support Violence Prevention Programs giving a grand total of $5,625 in commission donations for 2015!Â
Together with the Garage Sale for Shelter and the Commission Donation program, the agents and staff of Royal LePage Access Real Estate raised $10,626.87 in 2015 for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.
The fundraising continues in 2016 as the need continues. We’ll see you May 7th!
